Juicy, bright and complex

We taste blackcurrant, grapefruit and raspberry

SKU: N/A Categories: ,

A washed process batian variety produced and harvested in January 2020 by Samuel Macharia in the Kirinyaga region of Kenya.

Refreshingly bright and juicy with a distinctively luscious Kenyan cup profile, Kiranga is the perfect way to start the day.

Unlike most Kenyan lots which are blends of several varieties produced by many smallholder farmers, this coffee is a single variety (batian) from just one producer, Samuel Macharia, who has been farming Kiranga Estate with his family since 1995. Located at altitudes of 1700m in central Kenya’s famed coffee-growing region of Kirinyaga, cherry at Kiranga Estate benefits from slow maturation due to the elevated climate and is selectively handpicked, pulped in a 2-disc pulper and then fermented overnight. After fermentation, parchment is washed in clean water and transferred to raised beds to sun dry.

This AB lot from Kiranga Estate is bursting with blackcurrant and raspberry notes and the crisp, juicy acidity is rounded out beautifully by a rich and creamy mouthfeel. Complex, sweet, sparklingly clean and bright, there’s a lot to love about Kiranga.
