A washed sugarcane process mix of caturra, colombia and castillo varieties produced and harvested in September 2021 by smallholders in Colombia.

Soft and balanced with a creamy, round texture, this decaffeinated lot is an easy-drinking classic. In the cup, Tumbaga is super sweet with notes reminding us of chocolate, brown sugar and red apple.

Tumbaga was built by our sourcing partners Sucafina using coffee from a variety of producers in Antioquia and Eje Cafetero, all of which were sourced with high sweetness and balanced acidity in mind. This lot was decaffeinated in Colombia using the sugarcane method – doing so locally has resulted in a drastically lower carbon footprint compared to other common decaffeination processes which take place typically in Europe or North America. The process uses ethyl acetate derived from sugarcane to extract the caffeine present, and the beauty of this processing is that unlike many other decaffeination methods, most of the original characteristics of the coffee are preserved, resulting in a vibrant and sweet cup.
