Santa Ana, El Salvador
Sweet, ripe and juicy
Natural bourbon by Fernando Lima

For the sixth season we are thrilled to share coffee produced by Fernando Lima, a vastly experienced producer who is central to our sourcing in El Salvador. The first naturally processed lot that we have ever sourced from Fernando, Santa Elena is ripe and sweet, with juicy acidity and a profile reminding us of dried fruits, strawberry and milk chocolate.

Relationship

When searching for a producing partner in El Salvador back in 2021, Fernando Lima was recommended to us as a producer who we could rely on for fantastic quality and consistency and with whom we could develop a successful long-term partnership. Fernando is a producer with a legendary reputation for high quality production, as proven by the record number of Cup of Excellence wins throughout his career. It was our pleasure to visit the Lima family in 2023 and Fernando's commitment to quality, sustainable farming and developing long term, transparent partnerships are clear to see. Now in our sixth year of partnership, we have loved working with Fernando’s coffees over the years and always look forward to his clean, balanced profiles.

About this coffee

Having previously focused our sourcing with Fernando on his farm Las Laderas, this year we have also selected coffee from another of his farms, Santa Elena, for the first time. Located on the slopes of Santa Ana volcano, Santa Elena benefits from rich volcanic soil and some of the highest altitude in El Salvador. In 2006, following the eruption of Santa Ana, Fernando took the opportunity to stop the use of pesticides and fertilisers, to replant shade trees with native species and to renew older coffee trees. Fernando’s careful processing has resulted in a clean, balanced natural coffee, with ripe, fruity sweetness and comforting milk chocolate.
